Hardcover. Beginning Edition Thus. Demy octavo, [15cm/6inches], total gilt-embossed deep=dark-green cloth sans dust jacket, pp. 190. Please feel free to inquire every bit to particulars and/or additional photographs. . William Fearing Gill Wrote a biography of Poe which was published postal service humously in 1877. The Poe Society of Baltimore's webpage notes: "Shortly subsequently the initial copyrights expired in about 1876, a trickle of competing editions appeared, slowly swelling until it eventually became a full scale publishing free-for-all. The first serious alternative to the Griswold edition was that of John Henry Ingram, published initially in Edinburgh in 1874 and 1875. Foreign publishers had the reward of ignoring American copyrights, just every bit American publishers more often than not ignored foreign copyrights". In uncommonly good status.

Green Hardback. Condition: Very Skilful -. First Edition Thus. No stated date - a preliminary notation is dated 1872 although a catalogue at the terminate of the book is dated 1879. Presumed first edition thus but perchance a afterward issue. viii. 676pp., a frontispiece portrait of Poe and small illustration of Poe'due south cottage at Fordham on the title page, and a facsimile of the handwriting of Poe. There is a 40 page publisher'south catalogue dated August 1879 at the terminate of the book. The preliminary annotation at the start of this edition of the works of the famous American writer and poet Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) describes it as beingness 'more than complete than any yet published in this country. It not only gives the whole of the poems and stories which have been left us by this fine genius, merely it also contains some critical essays which will be new to English language readers'. At that place is as well a study of Poe's life and writings by the French poet Charles Baudelaire, who was 1 of Poe's greatest admirers. The volume is bound in the original dark-green cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and a facsimile of Poe's signature on the front lath. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf vesture and soiling with a little staining on the boards. The spine ends and bottom corners are bumped with a petty damage to the fabric at the spine ends. There is wear to the textile on the corner tips, a pocket-sized hole in the fabric on the rear spine edge and a calorie-free dent on the fore edge of the front lath. The contents are tight and fairly clean apart from a few pocket-sized marks and some scattered foxing. The foxing is more often than not light although the starting time and last few pages, including the championship-page, are a scrap more than heavily affected, particularly the frontispiece and its tissue-guard. The signatures of the book are staple-bound rather than sewn, and are slightly visible down the spine gutter between a few of the signatures. A proper noun and address has been written on the back of the front end free endpaper. PLEASE NOTE: Actress postage may be required to tracked aircraft for this expensive book. Size: vii.75" tall.
